Dodge Challenger SRT8 vs RT
The Dodge Challenger is one of the sports cars nicknamed as a pony car. The 2012 model year Challenger comes in a variety of trim packages including the RT and SRT8 packages. The SRT8 trim costs significantly more than the RT trim and therefore has a number of improvements. The main difference between the SRT8 and the RT is the former’s larger engine. With a 6.4-liter engine, the SRT8 can produce nearly 100 horsepower more than the RT’s 5.7-liter engine. More power means higher acceleration and higher speed.
When it comes to the exterior, there are a couple of notable differences between the SRT8 and RT. The first is the noticeably larger wheels fitted to the SRT8. While the RT sported 18-inch wheels, the SRT8 has 20-inch wheels. The SRT8’s tires are also wider, giving it significantly more traction than the RT, which is quite advantageous given the significant increase in horsepower. The second is the use of high-intensity discharge lamps or HIDs for headlights. These lights are significantly brighter than the halogen lights found on the RT.
The differences between the SRT8 and RT don’t end outside the vehicle, as there are a number of differences within the vehicles as well. You’d quickly notice that the SRT8’s seats are covered in leather, unlike the RT, which is covered in cloth. The SRT8’s seats are also heated, making it much more comfortable on those cold winter nights.
The SRT8 also has a couple of nice additions to its electronics. The first is a parking sensor system that takes most of the guesswork out of parking. Alerts the driver about the proximity of objects that may not be visible to him. Another addition is a HomeLink garage door transmitter. If you have a compatible controller connected to your garage door, you can open your garage door without leaving your SRT8.
